| jesus in jasper
Jasper is one of only three gemstones mentioned
in the Bible, which is why it was chosen to represent the most well-known face
on earth. The unusual hardness of this stone mirrors the longevity of his
message of peace.
Like the study of the Madonna in Carnelian,
this is a wry tribute to the many reports of the face of Jesus appearing in
inanimate objects.
This particular species of stone is called Dalmatian
Jasper for obvious reasons. Its mottled, pinpoint pattern creates an image
reminiscent of a pointillist painting.
This piece measures 8" x 10" and
comprises of 500 3/8" tiles.
